On Saturday, May 24th, The Commons, Leongatha buzzed with energy, laughter, and purpose as supporters near and far gathered to celebrate Foundation Day 2025. This event, designed to strengthen community bonds and nurture shared spaces, not only met its ambitious goals - it surpassed them in ways that left organisers and participants alike beaming with pride.

Goals Achieved (And Then Some!)

The day’s objectives were clear: unite volunteers, nourish the community, and leave a lasting impact on the land. Here’s how the numbers stacked up:

- 2 Rows Laid, Foundations Built: Two gardening rows were expertly positioned and prepared, creating the backbone for future green spaces. These rows will soon burst with life, symbolising growth for both the environment and the community.

- 20+ Volunteers, Endless Heart: Over 25 enthusiastic volunteers rolled up their sleeves, exceeding the goal of 20. From planting to cardboard laying, their dedication was the engine of the morning.

- 120+ Food Items Shared, No One Left Hunger: The home made muffins were a breaky winner. and fostered connection over shared plates.

- 200 Plants Planted, A Greener Future: Volunteers planted 200 native shrubs and flowers, boosting biodiversity and beautifying The Commons. Each plant represents a step toward sustainability.

- 2000+ Smiles, Countless Memories: Proof of the morning’s magic.

Community Spirit Shines Bright

With limited publicity the event’s reach stretched beyond expectations, with supporters traveling from the Latrobe Valley to join the festivities. “It’s inspiring to see people from different corners of the region come together for a common purpose,” said volunteer coordinator Neil Barrett. “This isn’t just about planting trees—it’s about planting connections.”

Volunteers: The Heartbeat of the Morning

From school students to retired gardeners, the volunteer team embodied diversity and passion. Local Leongatha resident Sven, who helped lead the planting effort, remarked, “I’ve never seen so much done in one day. It’s amazing what hands working together can achieve.”
