UPDATE: The incident that occurred at the Leongatha Community Garden overnight Friday 9th May was not foxes or dogs.
Sickening security footage of the incident has been provided to police and will be provided to the RSPCA.
We extend our sincere thanks to the police for their prompt response in attending the Garden this morning to inspect the site and gather evidence.
Amidst this upsetting event, the outpouring of support from the community is heartening. The willingness of community members to help replace the chickens, provide security systems, and assist with repairs and improvements to the coop speaks volumes about the spirit of the people of Leongatha.
In a small piece of good news, the discovery of one chicken alive and hiding in the garden this morning offers some solace. Thank you.

We are shocked and in disbelief!
Overnight our Chicken Coup at the Garden was broken into. The door smashed and the wire ripped off.
The chickens were slaughtered and their carcasses left lying around outside the coup!
Equipment from inside the coup was strew around outside as well.
For more than 14 years, on and off, our chickens have peacefully resided at the garden, bringing joy to young and old alike and providing us with eggs to help support the Community garden. We have never had an incident until now.
This is an unbelievable senseless act of cruelty!
The matter has been reported to the police and the RSPCA.
