A huge thank you to everyone who came out for our AGM recently! We had a fantastic turnout, and it was wonderful to see such strong support for our garden.
A warm welcome to our newly elected committee members:
President: Neil Barrett
Vice President: Cheryl Lamb
Treasurer: Jenny Lim
Secretary: Linda Bunter
And our fantastic new committee members: Michelle Boyd, Tracey Fraser, Bill Verboon, Clive Williams, and Nick Deacon.
We're all looking forward to another fruitful year ahead!
As the returning president of the Leongatha Community Garden, our future actions over the next 12 months will focus on continuing the garden's growth and strengthening its community. Here is a list of proposed key actions:
Nurturing The Commons
Your primary focus will be to nurture the recently launched "Commons" to its full potential. This involves overseeing the collective growing of local, seasonal, and sustainable food, and ensuring the harvest is distributed effectively to volunteer workers, sold to the public to support operations, and provided to those suffering from food insecurity.
Continuing the Four Units of Activity
We’ll continue to support the four distinct units of activity that are crucial to the garden's mission:
The original Community Garden: Maintain the high occupancy rate of the individual plots and ensure the garden remains a thriving space for members.
The Culinary Group: Support workshops and shared meals that explore the world of food and bring members together.
The Cluck 'n Collect market: Oversee the continued operation of this key fundraising initiative, which is a vital source of revenue for the garden.
The Commons: Lead the ongoing development and growth of the community farm.
Engaging Members and Strengthening Community
We will provide opportunities for members to engage and contribute, further strengthening the community's bond. This includes:
Organising events: Coordinate gatherings like the "Morning Cuppa @ the Garden" to encourage social interaction and the sharing of gardening experiences.
Encouraging involvement: Promote the core benefits of the garden—saving money, boosting sustainability, building community, learning skills, and nourishing well-being—to encourage active participation from all members.
Addressing challenges: Continue to review and improve security measures in response to past issues like theft and vandalism, ensuring a safe and secure environment for everyone.
